problem running blackdown java

Hi,
I'm having a problem running java. When I try to run the java command I get
an error
   can't find libjava.so.

I've done the following as I have a h3970:
cd /j2re1.3.1
ln -s bin/armv4l bin/armv5tel
ln -s lib/armv4l lib/armv5tel

But it makes no difference. I've set the PATH variable as:
PATH=//j2re1.3.1/bin:$PATH

Is this correct? And are there any other variables I need to set...classpath
for example?

Any help greatly appreciated!
