Hi,
My h5550 arrived today; after playing with the defective demo software
it shipped with, I put the bootloader on it without any trouble:
boot> ver
Compaq OHH BootLoader, Rev 2-21-12 [BIG_KERNEL] [MD5] [MONO]
Last link date: Mon Nov 3 15:33:04 EST 2003
Contact: bootldr_at_handhelds.org
[well, actually I had a great deal of trouble with the wireless eth,
thanks to Wince, and ended up having to use Bluetooth and a mobile phone]
and then did a "load root" and uploaded
bootgpe2-v0.7.2+unstable16-h3900.jffs2. This also seemed to go well,
although an intial boot didn't seem to get the LCD going.
Removing the battery for a few minutes seemed to improve matters, and I
managed to work around the:
familiar login: root
login: no valid shadow password
issue and set a root pw.
Now, on booting, I get the penguin logo, and the the GPE 2.1 banner.
Eventually I get an X cursor, with an alternating light/dark background.
The touchscreen works, in that the X cursor follows my clicks.
At this point I don't seem to be able to do anything graphically. None
of the main buttons do anything, including the power button. The reset
button does what it should, giving me either the familiar prompt or the
bootloader if I hold down the centre button.
I can see that gpe-login is running, but I'm not getting a login screen,
just the alternating light/dark background.
Am I missing something obvious...?
thanks very much for any comments.
cheers,
calum.
