Can you confirm what kernel you have? unstable16 came w/ a kernel that
had broken usbnet (hh36.8). But should have working suspend/resume.
Although the usbnet symptom is different. If you are accidentally still
running that kernel version you may be having this sort of problem.
I am running kernel version hh36.11 (but hh36.9 should work swimmingly)
on the same iPAQ (the h5550). Sometimes my iPAQ freezes (especially if
the battery is low) and it can take some charge time and a couple reboots to
get everything humming again.

Oh, and for the freeze problem. Usbnet will freeze if the host computer
already has an 'up' usb interface. Try bringing the interface on the
host down w/ ifconfig down <interface name>. Then bring up the iPAQ.
Then bring up the iPAQ usb network interface, then bring up the host
computer interface. If that all works, that is probably the issue.
