The .config fronm hh.org cvs includes CONFIG_DEVFS_FS=y and
CONFIG_DEVFS_MOUNT=y. That's why I have thought I should install devfsd.

How about the mq11xx_base? It aloa made something to the lcd (after that
it was completely blank).
