h5xxx audio problem with Familiar 0.8 and RAT

Hi All,

I am trying to run RAT (Robust Audio Tool) on h5xxx iPAQs using the latest
GPE-based Familiar version 0.8. So far, I have been able to start the
application on the iPAQ and create a link to a peer laptop, however, I am
having some audio problems. The problems are on the PDA side:

* Most audio settings either crash the application or do not produce
intelligible sound,
* Some settings (such as 32 kHz, 8 bits per sample, stereo channels) produce
audio that has shifted pitch. I can hear a lower pitch on the iPAQ when
talking on the laptop side and lower pitch on the laptop when talking on the
PDA side.

I have also created PCM (*.wav) files with all combinations of sampling
rate, 8 or 16 bits per sample, and stereo or mono channels. I use "cat
wave_filename.wav > /dev/dsp" to play the file out. Same observation holds
here, sound output is either distorted, unintelligible, or shifted in
frequency/pitch.

I suspect the problem is in the h5xxx audio drivers, since I could at least
play out 8 kHz, 8 bits per sample, mono files with h3850 iPAQs and Familiar
verison 0.7.2.

Can anyone suggest what might be wrong in the case explained above? I am
open to suggestions of how to debug and/or fix the problem. Can there be any
workarounds for at least fixing the pitch problem?

Thank you,

- Al
