Error value -22 message when accessing the /proc/hal/light_sensor file (+)

Does anyone know what happened to the light sensor interface in iPAQ 5550?

The command "cat /proc/hal/light_sensor" gives "Error value -22" message.
This command works fine on iPAQ 3800 with the same version of kernel (zImage-2.4.19-rmk6-pxa1-hh37).
The module ipaq_hal (which I suppose is responsible for /proc/hal interface - I might be wrong) is loaded on both PDAs.

Any advice on how to read the light sensor measurement value is welcome.
