Wlan issue

Hi,
  I'm using bootgpe2-0.7.2+unstable2-h3900.jffs2 on a HP 5455... first may
I say that the touch screen works like a dream, THANKS!!! I am still
left with two issues... 1. The wlan does not seem to accept my
configuration (but if I use a wifi pccard - that works)... It keeps
using

IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"okuwlan" Nickname:"okuwlan"

When I attempt to make a change and use the iwconfig wlan0 commit command
- I get
Error for wireless request "Commit changes" (8B00) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported.

2. Is there a way to disable the internal wifi so that when I am using an
external card - there is no interference?

BTW - for anyone who is interested ... I have Kismet 3.0.1 running with a
cisco 350 pccard on the HP5455 - works like a charm - but I wish I could
use the internal wifi instead.
