Yes, it seems that the audio driver is defective.

I'm not sure what's going on here. Some people seem to have found that
tweaking the ipaq-sleep settings improves matters.

I think the next item on the list is fixing the remaining suspend/resume
problems, most notably with the touchscreen.
By the way, there's now an updated (hh28-1) kernel in the 2.4.19 feed
which corrects a problem with the joypad.
