Hey Jessica..
I know... it's a bit confusing at first, isn't it.
Here's what I did. I'm assuming you backed up your wince image using
bootblaster when you installed the bootloader. I don't know your skill
levels, so if I'm explaining too much, sorry about that.
-------
Go to http://www.handhelds.org/~pb/unstable/
Download the latest version of the bootgpe2 package. As of today, the
latest was 9.3. You want the jfs file.
Hook your cradle up via serial cable to your computer.
Bring up HyperTerminal or other terminal app of your choice.
Create a new connection, set it to 8-N-1, no flow control.
Hold the centre of the jog button on your ipaq and press the reset button.
It should buzz.
Place it in the cradle.
On the computer, press the enter key.
You should see a boot command.
Type "load root"
Send the bootgpe2 file via ymodem.
Let it go. When it's finished transferring. It'll overwrite the flash and
return to a boot command.
Type the following command:
boot jffs2 boot/zImage console=ttyS0 init=/bin/sh sh
The system will boot to a root prompt.
Set a root password.
Hold the jog and reset again..
Put the ipaq back into the cradle.
Hit the enter button on the computer..
You'll get a boot prompt. Type boot.
It should boot into GPE. You'll get the screen calibration app. It won't
work because the touchscreen driver doesn't work.
Login as root via the console.
You're in now.
What I did after that was add a user with no password and reboot.
The userid shows up in the login window on the ipaq. If you press the centre
of the jog, it acts as an enter and you'll log in on the ipaq.
That's really as far as you can go on the ipaq itself.
You can login on the console and play around though.. that's pretty cool.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [H5400-port] BootBlaster -> bootloader 2.21.11 not working
So I've loaded bootldr-pxa-2.21.11.bin.gz into my h5550.
It tells me I have a mach_type 0xcb, and it confirms my valid bootldr.
Then I press the joybutton, and reset. I have not managed to get it to
boot anything other than the HP bootloader. I only get a vibrating iPAQ
when I press the center button. I have to release the center button to get
it to reboot at all. I've held both buttons a long time, I've reversed the
order I press them in, I've let go of one while still holding the other.
Nothing seems to work.
Am I just completely incompetent? Is there something weird about the way
the h5550 boots compared to the h5450?
Thanks,
jessica
