failed boot

So, I tried the zImage in the old directory, Got Tux and the thermometer
went full, screen blanked, then nothing. Nothing in minicom and no
change in the iPAQ. Wiki says "after a short time..." but unless the
short time is greater than 3-4 minutes, I'm stuck. Any ideas? SHould I
build another kernel?
