serial setup & CF boot?

Hi Folks

In an attempt to debug this CF card problem I got hold of a serial cable
from this crowed (it seems):
http://www.e2mate.com/en/product_info.asp?id=604

When setting up minicom as per either of these pages:
http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/HpIpaqH2200CradleMod#head-e54c66f6937e61116b9354496f65c0e195598de8

I get a "Connect To" window pop up in WinCE with "status: Connecting to
Host" message. Then starting HaRET I get:

[morgan_at_morgansmachine ~]$ minicom -C minicom.output

Welcome to minicom 2.2

OPTIONS: I18n
Compiled on Sep 25 2007, 06:13:56.
Port /dev/ttyS0

Press CTRL-A Z for help on special keys

|xxxxxxxxxx

And the attached minicom.output - which seems to be a binary file...

Are there any set-ups to do beyond the defaults in minicom?

Any pointers much appreciated.
Regards,
Morgan.
