HaRET boot unsuccessfull

Hi folks,

I've just tried to install Linux on my iPAQ 2210 and failed. Sad
enough, I've even modified the craddle as it recommended at
http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/HpIpaqH2200CradleMod but
I've never seen anything in my minicom, so it is posible that the
serial port of my device simply doesn't work.

Now, the exact procedure. I've downloaded
bootgpe-v0.8.4-h2200.tar from
http://handhelds.org/familiar/releases/v0.8.4/install/download.html
, and haret-0.5.1.exe from
http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/HaRET

My CF card is Kingston's 512MB one. I've partitioned it as
follows:

---------------------------------------------------------------
Disk /dev/sdb: 512 MB, 512483328 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 993 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 = 516096 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 * 1 32 16096+ 6 FAT16
/dev/sdb2 33 993 484344 83 Linux

---------------------------------------------------------------

then, I've formatted the first one with mkfs.vfat, the second one
with mke2fs, and, following the instruction at
http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/CardBoot , unpacked the
appropriate files, copied the kernel image under the name of
"zImage" onto the vfat partition along with the haret (renamed to
haret.exe) and the startup.txt file (exactly as shown in the
instruction). After making the appropriate modification to the
etc/fstab within the Linux partition, I've given it the first
try.

The device quickly shown me several lines of text (I couldn't
even read them because they disappear quickly), then the screen
went blank (black, or may be should I say "gray", as the
display's light was on), and nothing else happened. Device
didn't any longer react to any keypresses, but rebooted after
pressing the reboot button (with the stylus).

I then downloaded the previous version of haret (haret-0.3.8.exe)
and tried it to see the penguin, the termometer and the 'blood
eyes'. Again, nothing interesting happened then.

As far as I have heard here in the list, there could be a problem
with the default kernel. I feel totally unprepared to build it
myself (well, I never succeded in building a working 2.6.* for my
desktop, it looks like a total mess -- despite the fact I had no
problem building 2.4.* and the older). Could may be someone
share the known-to-work kernel binary? Or even an image of a
CF-card which was successfully used to boot up Linux on 2210?

I'm really sorry I can't say more, as my serial-port modification
to the craddle doesn't seem to work.

WinCE is boring, I don't want to continue using it any longer.

What is suprprising for me is why there's no documented procedure
which leads to success for sure? Is it that because the hardware
is THAT different for different units of the "same" 2210 model?
In fact, it took about a hour for me just to find all the
instructions I finally used, starting on the handhelds.org main
page, and may be I ended up missing some important instructions
(well, I've included links to all the texts I used, could someone
check if I'm missing something).

Thanks!
