To be honest, I don't recall if I ever tested recording, but I was under
the impression that it was working.

I'm not sure about GPE with familiar (complete ignorance) however my
current understanding of the release schedule of familiar 0.9.x is
"it will be ready when it's ready". Vast progress has been made in a
number of fields, and judging by the pictures, George France has almost
completed purchasing and building the development server cluster !!!
(which, as I understand, is going to be building the next release).
