Problems with playing MP3s on Opie with kernel 2.6.21

I'd like to ask you for ideas about the following subject:

Now that kernel 2.6.21 is a big improvement over original 2.6.15 I'm using it
exclusively. For but one thing the new kernel is better. I can not play MP3s
in OpiePlayer 2. With OGG files playing goes mostly fine with single dropouts
from time to time. For MP3s the player sometimes plays a very short sequence
but is mostly writing something like

"Alignment trap: opieplayer2 (3411) PC=0x4094c8e0 Instr=0xe591c038
Address=0x0008113d FSR 0x013"

into the dmesg file and does not play any sound. This seems to have something
to do with the replaced sound module (snd-h2200_audio.ko) that, as far as I
know, was not used before.

Unfortunately I do not find out what module was used in the original 2.6.15
kernel. I'd like to test that one with version 2.6.21. Or it may was compiled
statically into it?

Have you any clue what other sound drivers were used in the older kernels and
how I can test if those would better work with the newest one?
