Are you sure you shoudn't use a /dev/ttyxxx device instead of /dev/ircomm?
You may first try to establish an IrDA connection to your device running
Pocket PC.
At least with the serial cable, as soon as the device is plugged and
there is a connection, PocketPC notices it.
