Hi,
I can't get Debian to pickup the USB connection with the iPaq.
Currently, I have an iPaq 2210, and wanted to run linux from it. I
downloaded Harnet, initrd, zImage and the config txt file from the
mirror, copied it to the iPaq.
Now, since I don't have any hardware available right now to run linux,
I installed Debian Sarge in VmWare on a WinXP Host PC.
I recompiled the 2.4.25-1 with usbnet and nfs support.
I start linux within VmWare, then I plug the iPaq in the USB craddle,
WinXP picks it up (i removed ActiveSync), then I just cancel the
Driver installation. I start Harnet on the iPaq, the thermometer goes
all the way to the top, and the screen backlight shuts off, but the
Penguin image stays there, and nothing happends.
I'm sure Usbnet module is loaded, I even tried to modprob usbnet, but
it still does the same thing.
When I look through /var/log/message, I don't get any messages from
the usb module when I connect the iPaq.
I have followed the instructions at
http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/HpIpaqH2200ssh , but I'm all
out of ideas on how to troubleshoot the source of the problem.
I'm thinking that since I run linux in VmWare, WinXP might not send
the usb hotswap signal to vmware for some reason.
Anyone encountered this kind of problem before? Any ideas would be welcome.
Also, anyone heard about a driver like "Usbnet" available to WinXP?
that way I could test to see if it's Debian, WInXP, or the iPaq that
is at fault.
Thank You!
