We've chose not to erase the whole ROM because all the unknown variables
right now. Instead we chose to leave the HTC software alone and let it
boot into LAB then Linux. HTC's bootloader is unique to the NAND flash
in the way that it moves code around and into RAM before it kickstarts
the ROM chip.

The HTC bootloader is has bootblock protection to keep us from Bricking
our units so for now we should be safe until we can answer all the
unknowns about the flash chip and what HTC does to make it tick.

I hope this helps answer some questions.
