Hey
Currently bootloader can:
1 load wince;
2 load kernel image from internal flash;
3 load kernel with initrd(optionaly) from sd/mmc card.
of course you can also boot linux using wince loader.
distribution you can put on:
A internal flash, thought small like opie or bootstrap;
this method first need boot linux on pda using other of methods to write
jffs2 image to internal flash and kernel image
this is for '2' boot menu
B on sd/mmc card;
for now you need mem card reader to do that to create ext2 partition and
decompress distro image. i have also sd/mmc with allready created so only
need write with 'dd' or other disk editor
this is for '3' boot menu or boot using wince loader
C on PC using NFS as storage for pda linux
required PC with linux, and a bit experience with NFS server
this is for '3' boot menu or boot using wince loader
about distribution source, i put links to wiki page in past, but for now
it's only NFS root. opie is not usable due to broken calibration of
touchscreen. in gpe touchscreen issue is not much and can be a bit usable,
but at that moment my gpe binary is broken and i must create new one.
I don't want explain exactly in details. current linux support for that
pda is not user friendly yet, except bootloader 'flasher' tool.
