Since you are running FC, there is a utility meant for this called
'mkinitrd'. It will create an initrd image for you, although I don't
know how well this will work under a toolchain since I haven't tried it
myself.

Initrd's are normally either (1) a gzip'd file system or (2) simply a
file system. You should be able to mount them as a loop'd filesystem
(i.e. mount -o loop /some/initrd /mnt/somewhere). You can also set one
up via losetup. Since this post is rather old (Jan 19), I'm guessing
you figured out how to manipulate your initrd. :)
