Connecting (Ir/Usb) to 1910 ?

Thanks again everybody on the reset issue, I'm capable of booting the
images now and resetting the whole thing again.

I've read numerous samples and howto's and I understand that i'm
supposed to be able to build an IP connection over IR or route one over
USB and then SSH to the device, but in case of IP over USB; I don't
understand how to configure/retrieve the IP adress in the first place ?
I'm a relative linux newbie but the image I've downloaded contains
'baked-in' settings for a.o. the IP adress right ?,
( I can't really find a config file to check/modify this...)

The IrDa initiates correctly now, I've gotten my hands onto a laptop
with IR and Dual-booting XP and Suse 9.1 and the laptop and 1910 even
seem to be willing to exchange some data but I'm still having a hard
time connecting.
I've done many fruitless efforts to get some IR comm going, both from XP
throught a 'direct connection' and in Linux as a terminal session but it
looks like I'm not allowed a connection.. The Ipaq keeps printing '
IrLAP, no activity on link !' when in reach of the IR, it seems to stop
when out of range...
Anyone ?
