I followed the instructions on the wiki a while back and everything
'just worked'. The intructions were (roughly as I remember them)

* install the correct modules for your kernel

* set boot params (to not include console=ttySA0)

Now I can pull up a terminal, init 4, modprobe h3600_stowaway, cat
/dev/stowaway and then type away in any app (I should put that stuff in
a script really).

A while back someone posted a link to a company selling an 'extension
cable' for the stowaway that allow you to have the ipaq horizontal -
check the archives.
