internet connection

is it possible to connect to the internet without an ethernet card in ipaq?
It is connected to a laptop which has an internet connection (the ipaq is
connected via the serial port).

I have no idea how to set up networking on the ipaq as before i always used
automatic configuration stuff provided by mandrake, redhat etc...
