Killing it with signal 9 does the trick for me; I assume it's wedged down
in the serial driver which must be closed and reopened to work again.
I guess it's possible that my serial chip gets restored to a slightly
different state from yours making it not recover by this mechanism. There
are probably a small army of registers that need to be restored after
resume to make it work right.
