Now that I'm back from from several weeks of business travel, I've tried
the Novatel Merlin PCMCIA Ricochet modem with Familiar 0.4. I can
report the following:
0) The card is correctly recognized;
1) After configuring ppp dial and chat scripts appropriately, it is
possible to connect to the Ricochet service and obtain an IP address,
gateway, etc. (I'm using WWC for my service).
2) The kernel seems to suffer from the problem that necessitates the
patch -- after 512 bytes of output (logging into one of my accounts
via ssh and executing an ls is usually enough to trigger this) the
session hangs, and must be closed.
For those of you wishing to try it yourself, I found wonderful
instructions at http://homepages.nyu.edu/~gmp216/nrm6842/
