Do you get this flicker too? It is wandering diagonal lines
flickering across the screen? Surely that is not good?

Well call me crazy, but before I put QPE on the familiar on ipaq
the power button and screen blanking only affected the screen. I
was able to continue to work from my desktop which was logged
in to the ipaq via ssh. But now since I have put the QPE 1.3.1 on
top and removed X11 the whole machine freezes whenever I
touch the "power" button.

No, that's not what I meant here. I had this problem of the first
touch of the screen switching it off again whe I was running under
X11. But now under QPE I have the machine going haywire
(diagonal flickering & freezing of all active network traffic)
whenever I touch the power button.
The function of the power button must be quite different between
X11 and QPE. Under the former it did only seem to affect the
screen and allowed working from remote via ssh but on the latter
both, either the blankout time or the power button, "switch" the
machine off.
