I'm writing this email from rxvt on my iPaq 3650,
ssh'd into one of my home systems via my WaveLAN
gold card using 40-bit WEP encryption. I'm typing
this from my Targus Stowaway keyboard. I must say
that this is going to be extremely useful in the
very near future (travel to BlackHat and DefCon).
I've got a bit of a puzzle, tho: I had my 3650
hacked to expand the RAM to 64 MB. However,
familiar only recognizes the first 32 MB. Any
suggestions?
Also, bold fonts on the display are a bit difficult
to read, as the characters tend to blur. I was
hoping the truetype fonts in the postinst package
would help, but following the install instructions,
ipkg reports it can't be found on the server. Any
suggestions here?
Another question: Is there any X app ported to
monitor battery life, and how much life should
I expect with this particular setup?
Finally, I saw someone ask about changing the
password on the iPaq. Seems that passwd and
similar aren't installed. However, if you've
got access to a Unix machine with openssl installed,
you can run
openssl passwd -crypt -salt xx PASSWD
...where xx is a two-digit integer, and PASSWD is
the password you want. Cut and paste the resultant
output into the password field in /etc/passwd.
This method is also handy for adding new users
with passwords, until crypt and passwd are ported
(if I can figure out cross-compilation from
OpenBSD and FreeBSD, I may tackle this myself).
Anyway, thanks for all the hard work and the
impressive results!
