Faster method to install familiar ?

Is it normal to have 40kbps speed during the load kernel
and the other stuff using the CRL Bootldr ? Is there other way
to download the kernel ? ( ie from Microdrive, flash ). Is it
possible to use redboot instead of the CRL bootldr for familiar
install ?
