did you initiate the download on your desktop pc ?
this was something i misunderstood, too. i thought i had to put the
flash images in some standard place, and the "load" command would
look for them on my machine. but in fact you have to transfer them
by hand. all the load command does is wait for something to come in.
another good piece of advice i got was:
type faster !

i didn't believe it at first, but people on irc told me you need to
be *VERY* quick to initiate the xmodem download after saying "load
<anything>".
when you use minicom, there is a keyboard shortcut
<ctrl>-<a>,<z>,<s>. select xmodem and the file you want to upload.
it will almost certainly fail the first time you try when you have
to browse directories, but the second time, the correct file will
already be selected, and you have a good chance of success.
