Mike,
I have used PPP successfully in .3 and .4 by following the directions in the
HowTo (www.handhelds.org/z/wiki/PPPHowto). There is an extra step for .3,
and I assume that it applies to .4 as well.
It looks like it's simply not talking to the ipaq. You can add the "debug"
option to your /etc/ppp/peers/ipaq file and then take a look in
/var/log/messages on your linux box to see what's going on.
One other thing that I do to make sure that it's setup properly on the ipaq
is login to the ipaq as ppp... you should get a bunch of gibberish
characters as it's running pppd. If you don't then something's wrong on the
ipaq configuration.
