Hello to the list (I am new),
Thanks to the work of many and the documentation of few,
I have install familiar 0.4 on my brand new iPaq second hand.
I choose to go for the complete file system because
I was unsure about being able to setup the network.
1)
What was not explicit in the documentation is that:
flashing task-familiar-complete.jffs2 take 45 minutes.
I could have guess or compute that but it took me by surprise.
2)
Another anoying thing is that it is difficult to read the font used
for the thing I was suppose to type on the "boot>" prompt.
I would have prefered a fixed size font where it is easy to distinguish
a 0 from a O.
3)
It is not easy to start using X and the window manager and all those new
tools,
but I was dissapointed by the console shell used.
My backspace key is not working and only display ^H.
And there is not TAB completion and history arrow key
(at least not working for me but it might be Windows 2000 Hyperterminal
bug).
I might have been using bash, cisco router and nortel switch too much.
4)
I should have put that one first...
but it was not easy to find a md5sum for windows/dos.
It took me more than 2 minutes with google, maybe just linking to one
or having one together with the other instalation file would be great.
5)
I am unsure if I will be able to go back to WinCE,
here are my md5sum for the backup of the flash:

I have an english (UK) iPaq
Product Revision Level: 1.0
ROM Date: 12/26/00
ROM Revision: 1.69.00 ENG
OS Version: 3.0
What did surprise me is that the last file checksum is different
from the one I have on the restore CE project table (where the other 3 are
OK).
I did a second flash dump with exactly the same result.
So it cannot be a transfert problem.
I really hope to hear from someone with the same checksum. ;-)
I hope those constructive comment might help making the documentation
better.
The next question is "now what is the next step" and "how can I help"?

PPS: I also already miss iMame, any alternative for Linux?
