256k isn't enough for me to complain about when compared to the hassle
of copying my root filesystem up to a host system, repartitioning, and
moving everything back at the new offset . . .
Explaining that that is what one is doing there would be good, so that
one can make one's own choice before one's been fixing things for a few
days.

Nope -- it was there, but I sure didn't see it.
I thought it had to do with the kernel not understanding the partion
map, and it looks like I was right :/

Had. I don't know if I still have a copy anywhere, but I found it on a
system at Tulane, and copied it.
Binary only, and limited, but better than edit . . .
