Have you checked your logs with logread?
Perhaps there is mention of vcc settings there?
Also, remember that you are running a 2.6 kernel with udev,
not one of those ancient 2.4-based beasts. ie. most of the
instructions you will find for this sort of thing are simply
inappropriate for your system.
