Unrecognized kernel image

hello * !

i'm using an ipaq 3660, 64mb ram, 16mb flash rom.
bootloader is 2.14.8, kernel image is zImage-2.4.3-rmk2-np1-fam2.

i have installed everything, including the bootstrap filesystem, and
apart from a slightly different output from the examples, all went
smoothly.

but when i type "boot", i get
   
   booting flash...
   kernel_magic=EA00008E
   kernel_region_words[9]=00020E08
   Unrecognized kernel image
   boot>

i have reflashed the kernel a number of times, but no change. i'm
sure that the zImage is ok, the hash is fine. what can i do now ?
