broken audio? /proc/scale?

Coupla queries...

When I use madplay to play music on my ipaq there is severe noise when the
music becomes loud (particularly loud bass?). I get the problem with the
penguin audio (for example). Has anyone else experienced this problem? If
not, I suppose my sound hardware is busted. The mixer applet that came with
familiar 0.4 gets stuck on max volume when I touch it while madplay is
running, that might not be good for the sound hardware...

Does anyone have any idea whether compaq would be willing and able to fix my
sound problem, assuming it is a hardware problem? I guess I'll call them up
and see.

One other thing, I've noticed that changing the cpu speed with /proc/scale
(e.g. through the familiar menu) seems to cause severe problems sometimes -
some settings kill the computer immediately, and sometimes switching speeds
seems to screw up jffs and I get lots of messages on the console - but a
reboot fixes that.

All in all, familiar and qpe are fantastic (I didn't try qpe 1.3 yet). I'm
looking forward to the `atd', I'll finally be able to use my iPAQ as an
organizer, not just a linux workstation!
