We should be using Debian's menu information. Not just because it's a
good idea, but because a7r and I reinvented it on night a few weeks
ago. It's documented at http://handhelds.org/~nelson/menu/ .
User programs that need a menu entry should place an icon in
/usr/X11R6/include/X11/pixmaps, a menu file in /usr/lib/menu/, and run
update-menus in their postinst.sh script. Menu programs (foal and
window managers) should place a script to update their menus in
/etc/menu-methods. Programs that wish to override menu entries should
place them in /etc/menu.
No, the program update-menus hasn't been written yet. But that's a
SMOP once the ipkgs start supporting /usr/lib/menu.
