I had a very similar problem yesterday with a microdrive hard disk, cardmgr
was sending requests to ide_cs but the module registers as ide-cs to the
card system

cardmgr[12]: executing: 'modprobe ide-cs'
ide_cs.c 1.26 1999/11/16 02:10:49 (David Hinds)
ds: register_pccard_driver('ide-cs')
ds_ioctl(socket 0, 0xc050643c, 0x2025048)
bind_request(0, 'ide_cs')

you can change this in cardmgr bindings or in the driver
