To have enough room for QPE you might be better off just installing the
bootstap image (rather than the complete). That's what I did. There's a
HOWTO to install QPE:

Assuming you just have a 16Mb flash you won't be able to run QPE and X.

FWI, I am runing QPE 1.3.1 and I think it has a lot of potential. I've
heard that it's got a lot better since 1.3.1 but I can't decide whether to
wait for another release or leap in and start compiling my own.
