CyaCE + Dual Sleeve + ide_cs.o

I have been trying to boot a kernel + ramdisk from CyaCE that will be
able to
access my PCMCIA hard drive -- the idea being to build and fully test a
configuration before committing it to flash.

However problem after problem eludes my workarounds - I'm about at the
end
of my tether so I figured I should consult the experts.

 Here's what I've tried:

1. BootIntimate.zip: 2.4.3-rmk2-np1 with a compressed ext2 initrd
This boots OK, but according to the Wiki gods 2.4.3 doesn't like dual
sleeve.
In practise, cardctl finds two slots & recognises a 5v card present in
slot 0,
but causes a kernel panic when I try "cardctl ident".

2. bigpackage.zip: 2.4.4-rmk3-np1 with ext2.gz initrd
Will boot, but whatever console= args I try to tack on it boots with
stdout
on the LCD and stdin up the proverbial creek.

3. BootIntimate.zip modified to boot 2.4.4-rmk3-np1 with appropriate
modules
added to the initrd:
Seems to be booting alright with output on serial then it gets to this
point:
RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
RAMDISK: incomplete write (ramdisk too small?) (-28 != 32768)
My initrd for this is a slightly less full version of the original, and
is
well under 4Mb compressed.

4. 2.4.7-rmk3-np1-hh2 from lorien's demo feed:
 I have tried this with various sub-4Mb JFFS2 images (mkfs.jffs2 1.7) (I
understand this kernel does not talk ext2 natively?) and I keep getting
the
same CyaCE error: Read error 87.

If anyone can help me out by either pointing out the obvious error I'm
making
or kicking me in the direction of a working dual-sleeve kernel+initrd I
will
be eternally grateful and shower their family with virtual kisses. Or not,
if
you would prefer ...

Thanks again,
