dual pcmcia sleve

I just recieved the dual pcmcia sleve. I have two questions. One the instructions say I need to flash the rom.

1. Since I'm running familiar, do I still need to do this, or do I just need to use the kernel that supports the Dual sleve?

2. If I need to update the rom, how? Since I'm using linux all the stuff I've seen show updating using active sync.

3. If all I need is the updated kernel, which one is it?
