I'm not sure what you are really asking here. If you're not going to use
bridging, then you need to set up forwarding/masquerading on the host that
the iPAQ is connected to. The only part of this that has anything to do with
Familiar is the iPAQ's IP address.

Could it just be a slow connection? Maybe the download was working, just
slowly.

message and wait until you get another message, it might give you a better
idea of what's going on.
