Did you resize both the kernel and root partitions? Can you provide a
transcript from when you attempted to boot and it gave the message 'invalid
compressed format (err=1)'? I suspect you had the kernel partition
overlapping the root partition. Otherwise, it would cause no problems to
have the kernel partition larger than the kernel. It's only a problem when
the kernel partition is smaller than the zImage and the zImage gets
truncated.
