Hyper Terminal connection

Any pointers, I have just set up familiar linux on my ipaq. i used the
task-bootstrap.jffs2 for the root image. So all I basically have is
networking which is what I wanted. problem is I want to edit some config
files, I log into the unit via serial connection using hyper terminal when I
try to edit files using vi I cannot navigate around the screen using the
arrow keys. Originally I installed the task-familiar-complete.jffs2 root
image and was able to use the arrow keys to navigate with vi.

Any help would be appreciated.
