Terminal under QPE behaves strangely

Hi,

Not sure whether this is a QPE problem or Familiar. Trying here first.

I am running kernel 2.4.3-rmk2-np1 on my H3660, and I've installed
QPE/Palmtop 1.3.1. When I start the terminal (EmbeddedKonsole) I get the
message:

  sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

This results in the backspace not working (which is frustrating) and the
curser key (joggle button, or whatever it is) just echos control
characters.

More importantly, this stops me using ssh, because I get:

  # ssh localhost
  # You have no controlling tty. Cannot read passphrase

I don't know enough about tty to know where to start trying to fix this.
Anyone else?
