Hi all,
I am installing the bootstrap root image (task-bootstrap.jffs2) and want
to complete the process by running:
ipkg install_pending
rm /usr/lib/ipkg/pending/*
(so far so good)
"Configure the iPAQ for the network"
Hmmm, how do I do that? I am connecting my H3660 to a Win98 PC running
HyperTerminal. But I have not succeeded in getting a PPP connection to my
Win machine. And even if I did, I'm not sure if it's possible to setup IP
Masqerading (or whatever) to connect to the outside world (the PC is
connected to a Linux machine that itself has masqerading).
So, why don't I connect using Linux. Well, I can't get minicom to connect
as easily as HyperTerminal. All I can do is setup a PPP connection. What
can I do then? Well I can ping the ipaq (which is something I suppose).
But I can't login with minicom (nothing happens) and if I try and ssh to
the ipaq (as root) I get "Secure connection to 192.168.0.1 on port 22
refused".
What I _think_ I'm after is to be able to setup the PPP connection, ssh
onto the iPAQ and then continue the install...
ipkg update
pkg install ntpdate
ipkg upgrade
And then copy the QPE stuff over too.
Oh, and on the iPAQ I see the penguin with a flashing curser underneath.
Which I presume is all you get with the bootstrap image.
Any suggestions? To summarise (apolgies for long mail): I need an Internet
connection on my iPAQ, I only have a serial cable to play with (no network
card), and I can login with HyperTerminal and setup PPP to Linux (but I
can't login and have PPP at the same time).
Thanks,
Bill Horsman
(recently considered reinstalling WinCE but pride won't let me! :)
