Hi,
I apologise straight away for asking such a general question. It's about
what I should be trying to solve to make my iPAQ lovely.
I have an H3660 (64Mb) iPAQ on which I have installed stable familiar 0.4.
During the installation, because it didn't have Internet access it failed
to complete some of the post-install ipkg tasks. I installed the
"complete" system and have very little space left in my 16Mb flash. So now
I have a lovely iPAQ that I can use to play checkers and run a terminal emulator. But I
want to do more!
I don't have a LAN card so I have played with setting up PPP over the
serial port with some success. But I have to set up IP Masquerading on my
host PC to get this to work properly.
I really want to install QPE. This is what I plan to do:
Wipe my existing install (but not the bootldr) - not sure exactly how to
do this.
Install bootstrap (i.e. not complete) stable familiar 0.4
Setup PPP over serial
Setup IP Masquerading on host
Install QPE
But I'm wondering whether I should spend some more money and get a LAN
card as well. That would give me a lot more flexibility, right? I would
need a PC Card. The hardware compatability list tells me that D-Link
10/100 16-Bit Fast Ethernet PCMCIA DFE-650TX "Worked perfectly, right out
of the box! (Familiar .3)". I like that. But I also have the CompactFlash
option too (and the CF sleeve is cheaper than the PC Card sleeve). But, PC
Card will give me more flexibility. right?
Your thoughts and shared experiences on what must be a common problem
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill
