more ipv6 trouble

I've installed the 2.4.6 ipv6 kernel with the 2.4.6 ipv6 bootstrap image.

I've then downloaded things like ping6, telnet6 etc...

If i try and set an ipv6 address for the loopback interface (::1) it says

#ifconfig lo add ::1
no support for INET6 on this system

what am I doing wrong?
