Firstly the good news - I've installed Familiar 0.4 on my iPAQ without
converting it to a brick!
The installation went so easily I was worried I'd done something wrong! A
big thanks to the team for putting this together.
I want to use a Compaq WL-110 wireless card to provide the network. I'd
assumed that this would be easy, but I've obviously missed something. I've
successfully used these cards with Linux on Alpha (kernel 2.2.19) and all
that seemed to be required was to start the PCMCIA services and load the
driver (wvlan_cs). However, when I do this on the iPAQ I get
bash-2.03# /etc/pcmcia/rc.pcmcia restart
Shutting down PCMCIA services: cardmgrcardmgr[1335]: exiting
modulesds: Device or resource busy
rmmod: module i82365 is not loaded
pcmcia_core: Device or resource busy
.
Starting PCMCIA services: cardmgr.
bash-2.03# cardmgr[1435]: starting, version is 3.1.20
cardmgr[1435]: watching 2 sockets

Any pointers would be helpful. Above and beyond installing Familiar v0.4
task-familiar-complete.jffs2 as the root file system, I also downloaded the
wireless-tools_20-1.1_arm.ipkipkg.
A quick word based on experience - I wasted about an hour trying to transfer
files using Zmoden to the iPAQ using PowerTERM - it seems it's incompatible
with rz.
