check this atricle on Oreillynet, it tells the command to make a serial ppp conection to your pc then have your pc route out. I use it on my laptop all the time and it works great.

If you install the bash package it will give you that by default, and th up arrow command history also. Just install the pkg and then change your line for root in etc/passwd to have /bin/bash
