How to increase kernel space

According to the directions for upgrading to 2.4.6:

http://www.handhelds.org/z/wiki/Linux2.4.6

It says you have to have a 768k kernel partition instead of 512k. Of course I have 512k and need to change it, but dont see the instructions on how to do this. Do I have to reload to do it?

Thanks, and keep up the good work!!!!
