Hi,
I know that this is supposed to be easy, but I can't
quite seem to get my WAVELAN Orinoco PC Silver Card
to work. I have dug through archives and tried a
variety of things. I will easily admit, too, that I
am not network savvy.
Here's my configuration:
Familiar 0.3
Laptop connected to Linksys wireless AP/Router
Cable modem plugged in to Linksys -- uses DHCP
Here's what I've tried:
(1) Just plug it in and see what happens...
==> I get the "Operation Failed" message which means
minimally that there's a problem running DHCP.
(2) Edited the following files:
(a) config.opts -- uncommented the line for the Access Point
# Options for WaveLAN/IEEE driver (AccessPoint mode)...
module "wvlan_cs" opts "station_name=dash2"
# Options for WaveLAN/IEEE driver (ad-hoc mode)...
#module "wvlan_cs" opts "port_type=3 channel=1 station_name=dash2"
(b) network.opts --
# Use DHCP (via /sbin/dhcpcd, /sbin/dhclient, or /sbin/pump)? [y/n]
DHCP="y"
PUMP='y'
# If you need to explicitly specify a hostname for DHCP requests
DHCP_HOSTNAME=""
# Host's IP address, netmask, network address, broadcast address
IPADDR="192.168.1.101"
NETMASK="255.255.255.0"
NETWORK="192.168.1.0"
BROADCAST="192.168.1.255"
# Gateway address for static routing
GATEWAY="192.168.1.1"
(c) wireless.opts -- I commented out the *,*, stuff
and made a few mods to xvlan_cs info. No WEP necessary.
# NOTE : Remove the following four lines to activate the samples below ...

# *,*,*,*)

# Here are a few examples with a few Wireless LANs supported...

(d) I knew too, that my linksys box was configured to
use channel 6, so I executed:
iwconfig wvlan0 channel 6
(e) I then stopped (/etc/init.d/pcmcia stop) and
started (/etc/init.d/pcmcia start) ... here's what I get:

Still getting the operation failed...
Here's what I get from the ifconfig and iwconfig commands:

I would really appreciate any help that anyone can offer.
I know that this can be done since so many others have
already made it work.
Thanks!
